Police attended a street party on Rolleston Drive in Lenton on Friday evening where more than 100 people gathered, causing significant disruption to nearby residents.

Robia Shah, a mum of one who has lived in the area for 13 years, was woken by the noise. She said: "It was so loud, it was unbearable, especially at that time of night."

Shah reported seeing over 100 people on the road drinking and making noise. She also witnessed people urinating in the street. "I feel very scared and threatened," she added. "It just makes you feel unsafe in an area where this is going on." The family has considered moving out of the area.

Resident concerns and police response

Kate Loewenthal, a community leader in the area, said residents reported seeing people drinking and urinating in the street, and that several calls were made to the police.

Loewenthal told the BBC that officers appeared outnumbered when they arrived at the scene. "I think the attitudes that people were facing when they tried to speak to anybody were really poor," she said.

Asked if she considered moving, Loewenthal said: "That's like a red rag to a bull for me, because why should we move from our homes that have been our homes, many of us, all of our life? There are elderly residents who lived here for 70 years, they raised their families here."

She said the council, police and the university should take stronger action. "The council and the police should be doing what they can to stop these offences happening at night and the university should be taking much stronger action against the students when they're involved."

Another neighbour reported seeing many people drinking in the street, with bottles smashed and cans thrown around. The road was blocked by taxis arriving and leaving during the event.

University investigation

A University of Nottingham spokesperson said the university opened an investigation at a private property in Lenton and is working with police to support their probe into anti-social issues in the area.

A first-year student told the BBC he "sincerely" hoped this would not become a regular occurrence. He said he heard "increasingly loud noise coming outside my bedroom window" and at one point saw approximately 100 people outside. He found smashed bottles on the ground the morning after.

Members of the university's community engagement team were spotted giving out advice to students.
